Minor Party Leaders Debate - Election08 New Zealand

Permalink 06:50:50 am, Categories: NZ Comment

Minor Party Leaders Debate - Review

Well we saw, we listened, but were we wowed?

The winners - Tariana Turia and Winston Peters in a draw, with Jeanette Fitzsimons a distant second.

The debate idiot of the night - Peter Dunne, who seemed to belittle National and ACT a few times , then remembered he just announced he planned on going into coalition with them, and tried to get back on their saddle - quite amusing really!

The scariest policies - Hide / ACT, with them planning to abolish the minimum wage and benefits, talk about recipe for becoming a Third World Country where the rich are extremely rich and the rest are in deep poverty!

One liners of the night: Hide shouts out “Rubbish” to something Winston says, Winston replies “Well, rubbish is your speciality Rodney”

Hide, when Winston tries to say something as he is speaking “Winston, I am answering the question.” Winston “Yes, but you are not doing a very good job of it so I thought I would help out.”

Suck up of the night: - Hide again, where he tried to woo the Maori Party on a few occasions, seemingly oblivious to almost the entire studio trying to restrain themselves from bursting out laughing at his pathetic attempts.

Lastly - most confused of the night: Jim Anderton. Once commenting on his bottom lines said “selling Kiwibank” (instead of not selling Kiwibank) and “We should look at the glass half empty” (instead of half full).

Winston Peters (NZ First), who repeated twice that due to the current economic climate they all needed to work together, not bicker, was the most focused. Rodney Hide (ACT) showed his arrogance by refusing to work with NZ First, no matter what, this despite his part (ACT) being the party found to have breached electoral commission laws, and NZ First being cleared.

Perhaps the clearest issue to come out of this debate was the medias bias towards National/ACT yet again, with many of them declaring Hide and Dunne the better debaters, and ignoring the respectful and focused performance by NZ First and The Maori Party.

Will our overseas voters be the ones to save New Zealand? They have not been biased by the media, and can still help save NZ by voting for New Zealand First, and avoiding us sinking into becoming a Third World Country.

New Zealand Election 08 - Having OUR Say

Permalink 07:55:05 pm, Categories: NZ Comment

This election, the NZ people, both in NZ and overseas, can have their say about what they think of MPs ignoring their will.

The anti-smacking law was introduced to Gov’t by the Greens Party, and Sue Bradford. Despite over 80% of the voting public telling the Government they did not want the amendment made, making smacking children in NZ illegal, over 100 mps voted for it anyway.

Out of the three party leaders who mean the most to New Zealanders, being Helen Clark (Labour), John Key (National), and Winston Peters (NZ First), only one voted against the Bill being passed.

Helen Clarke - voted FOR the anti-smacking bill.

John Key - voted FOR the anti-smacking bill

Winston Peters - voted AGAINST the anti-smacking bill

John Key, National, has even said with the coming referendum about the anti-smacking bill, he will ignore the outcome as his Gov’t will not change it. In other words John Key does not care about what the majority of NZers want, he “will do what he sees is best".

New Zealanders can support Winston Peters with his trying to enforce the will of the people by giving their party vote to NZ First.

The Truth about the Parties for Election08 NZ

Permalink 10:33:32 am, Categories: NZ Comment

Over the last few weeks, New Zealand has been subject to what can be described only as the grossest act of political and media bullying in the history of New Zealand.

Some media, particularly NewsTalkZB (The talk radio for the ignorant of the country), along with National/ACT party biased gutter newspaper The NZ Herald, have embarked on such a nasty and biased constant barrage of attacks on Winston Peters, Leader of NZ First and the New Zealand Foreign Minister, that the future Government of NZ has basically been decided by them. Knowing if they attack NZ First, until they believe it will not get in, in the coming election, they have almost guaranteed a National/ACT/Maori Party government.

Some examples: NZ Herald, on the same day the Privileges Committee released the decision on the Owen Glenn donation; print a tiny article on their 6th page about John Key lying to the public and parliament about how many NZRail shares he owned, when he was questioning the future of NZ Rail in Parliament. Yet they cover their front page about the decision on the Peter’s-Glenn saga. So, here is a possible future Prime Minister of New Zealand caught lying, and only one small insignificant article almost half way into the first section of the newspaper, compared to front page coverage of an MP (Peters) who is the leader of a small political party.

Then there is NewstalkZB, who are virtually riddled with National Party and ACT political supporters, including many party members, and even advisers. They carefully select only commentators aligned with National or ACT to comment about Peters and NZ First.
All of this biased coverage results in every day New Zealanders hearing only one point of view. That being the point of view of those determined to overthrow the current Government, and put in place a Big Business influenced Government, namely that of National and ACT, supported by an “under their thumb” party - The Maori Party.

In fact the Maori Party are willing to sell their souls, and possibly their people’s political representation in parliament’s future, by considering allowing the end of Maori electorate seats, in return for them being a part of the next Government with National.

So, in summary of this long running topic, consider the following TRUTHS about the political parties when placing your vote this election:

* National = Talking about reneging on their tax cuts, have also talked about changing Working for Families, KiwiSaver, and selling Kiwi Bank.

* ACT = a nobody party, almost solely existing to support the Very Rich and Big Business

* Labour = More of the same, including social engineering.

* The Maori Party = Possibly, and ironically, will consider relenting to National’s push to get rid of the Maori Electorate seats, in exchange for them being part of the next Government (remember the “Baubles of Office"?)

* The Greens = Actually speaking some sense, but do you really want to support a party who told Parents they can no longer discipline their children, but also believe drugs should be legal?

* United Future = AKA Peter Dunne, again a nobody party, and led by Dunne - the apologist and supporter of Gaming machines, the plight on today’s lower income society. Dunne introduced them to New Zealand, and has supported them since.

* Jim Anderton = Ummm, does he actually know he’s an MP?

* NZ First = judge them on their achievements to date, as you cant judge them on what Winston Peters has or has not done, as we can’t get any truth from the media coverage.

NZ First Achievements

Free doctors visits and prescriptions for children under six.

$1.5 billion extra education funding from 98 to 2001

500 extra front-line police in 1998.

$1.5b additional health funding including 30,000 more elective operations.

Removal of the Superannuation surtax.

Stopped the privatisation programme and removed the profit motive from the health system.

1000 extra Police - still going since 2005

Pay Parity for Primary Teachers

540,000 people - including around 15,000 under the age of 65 - now have the Gold Card - saving them on thousands of products and services, including Free Public Transport from October

A minimum wage of $12 per hour

Superannuation at 66 per cent of the average weekly wage

Lower business taxes

All the above were the direct result of NZ First’s agreements with the Gov’ts of the day, in each three year elected period.

* Now it’s in your hands. Do you want to risk your future and your children’s future to be placed in the hands of a Government led by parties who will do what they can to protect the rich, and big business, supported by a party willing to sell their own people’s future in exchange for the “baubles of office"? Or, do you want to risk staying with the painful Government that you know?

A vote for the Maori Party, means a National Government, possibly the end of Maori Electorate seats and no doubt huge pressure on lower income people and on the disabled, to free up money to support big business.

A vote for NZ First, means a Labour Government, and the continuation of what we have had.

Your vote, your decision, make it wisely.

ACT'S GROSS HYPOCRISY

Permalink 09:16:56 pm, Categories: NZ Comment

The following Press release from the NZ First Leader, is just one example of the hypocrisy being shown by ACT and the mainstream media.

Rt Hon Winston Peters
Media Release

ACT’S GROSS HYPOCRISY
Not only is Rodney Hide’s complaint to the Police nothing but obsessive and attention-seeking behaviour, it is grossly hypocritical, says New Zealand First leader Rt Hon Winston Peters.

“To lay a complaint with the Police over something that is already being investigated by the appropriate body is a serious waste of Police time.

“More importantly, it is gross hypocrisy for Mr Hide to complain given his party’s track record – ACT had to be ordered by the Court of Appeal to provide a detailed breakdown of its 1996 expenses, but never complied.

“Here are the facts. ACT spent $1.65 million on their 1996 election campaign, far in excess of the $1 million cap at the time. Unlike all other parties, ACT would not provide a breakdown of its expenditure, and, in the words of an Electoral Commission spokesperson, “steadfastly refused to comply” with the Commission’s requests.

“After fighting a court battle with the Commission to avoid having to supply details of their expenditure, ACT was ordered by the Court of Appeal to provide a detailed breakdown, but never did so.

“Mr Hide, as ACT’s president at the time, was directly involved in this.

“Further, ACT never declared Bob Jones’ donation of $20,000 worth of office space, yet the media never mentioned it, even after I tabled evidence in the House.

“In a great irony, Mr Hide has just issued a statement stating that ‘MP’s, Ministers and political parties should not be above the law’, yet the facts make absolutely clear that ACT and Mr Hide have considered themselves to be above Electoral law.

“The situation is unbelievable, and only serves to highlight how desperate for publicity Mr Hide is, and how willing the media are to be taken along for the ride,” said Mr Peters.
